450SE/450SEL Updated Air Pump Installation
Hello everyone -
I am hoping if you can shed light on updated air pump installation on 450SE/SEL. My father owns 1977-78 450SE in Japan - W116. Mechanically, it is identical to US-spec 450SEL of the era. Now his air pump is failing and Japanese vehicle inspection coming up soon, he brought the car to the authorized dealership in the country. Original air pump on the vehicle is A 0001400485 and it's NLA. Updated replacement the MB can supply is A 0001400685. Replacement unit is, however, of different dimensions and its installation requires new bracket A1171420840, which is NLA also. So, dealer claims that custom bracket must be hand made at great expense. While I am not familiar with 450SEL here in the US, California owners of 450SEL must be faced with the same problem here. Is anyone familiar with updated air pump install? I found some notes regarding to this on web - "when replacing original #000 140 04 85, add 2x bushing #110 992 01 05, 3x screws #000933 006103, screw #000933 010093." Sounds like this updated air pump will fit the existing bracket with new set of washers and screws. I am new to MB with recently acquired 280E - it was not running but it runs with some remaining issues. My father has owned this 450SE for a few decades and treasures it. Japanese vehicle inspection is quite onerous, similar to UK requirements. I am hoping that I can help him on this. Any input is very much appreciated. Thank you. |
