recessed versus raised lug-bolt holes
I bought a set of used 14" rims off a W115 240D (MB part #115-400-13-02) to use with the narrower winter tires I run on my W115 300D. Both sets of rims have the same offset (30mm).
When I went to change the tires I noticed that the the lug-bolt holes on the 240D rims are recessed (i.e., face TOWARD the axle flange ). The lug-bolt holes on the 300D rims are raised (i.e., face AWAY FROM the axle flange - the rim sits flush against the axle flange). The recessed holes made me stop in my tracks! I'd never seen recessed lug-bolt (and center) holes before, and the way they fit the axle shaft flange is so strange (contact between the rim and the axle flange only at the 5 lug-bolt holes and the center hole). Did I buy the wrong rims or does it really matter whether the bolt holes are recessed or raised as long as the rims fit? Robert |
