Ran across this online, old add-on turbo review.

Did this guy ever produce turbos for 220D cars?

Needs an intercooler.

Boy that is still really slow. And I drive a non-turbo rabbit diesel...

This guy might know something about that article.

Curtis(diametrical benz) had this guy put a turbo on a 617.910 and mate it to a 4 speed manual. He claims to have designed it for a 617.910 back in a 1975.

The swedish company STT (Swedish Turbo Teknik) made back in 1980´s turbocharger sets for OM61X engines. The injection pump in older W115 was somehow unusable with the sets so it had to be changed.

I have one set for OM616 (240D) and the leaflet promises with "normal" injection pump settings some 100 hp. With abnormal pump settings and 7 mm. elements something else.

Originally the set did not include intercooler but an oil cooler. I have one already so I decided to install that intercooler as well. Some lucky day.

Here You can see some images of the set:

Boy the color of that wastegate hose screams 80's

I love seeing old stuff like that, very cool.
I was always surprised more people do not turbo the 240's, especially plentiful w123's.

I too like the idea of a turbo 240.With a modded pump you could probably see 125HP(double stock rating!) Pulling through a 4 speed this would be approximately the same power as the S class diesel in a much lighter chassis.
It would be hard to say how long term reliability might suffer though. The 5 cylinder turbos had a number of improvements like oil spray cooling for the pistons which could not be applied easily to the 240 engine.
I dream of being able to take freeway on ramps without fear!

Has anyone researched H20 / methanol injection systems?

They're still in business! They're in Gardena now.

Benzoid is my friend, he's very close by and has been mediating the correspondence between me and Wolfgang.

I have rode in that car, it's blue BTW! . It is much different now, apparently the 220D motor was eaten by a backfire from another vehicle as he tells me. It now has a 617.910 with a 300D flywheel, a turbo, 4 speed manual, egt, and mechanical tachometer, and a 2.88 rear.

My car is essentially the same with a 617.910 300D flywheel balanced with the crank. A OM617.95x IP with an ALDA has been exchanged in lieu of the original IP with the manual altitude compensation. I am still a little unclear as to how much boost the turbo will put out. There's the standard response of no oil coolers nitrided bearings etc. but he has run turbo kits on other clients cars for many years. I have seen a few of them in person and they're running strong on 615/616 engines.

Strelnik - Yes he did produce turbo kits for 220D's in very small numbers.

He does turbo rebuilding for anyone Garrett / Triple K's but he's experimented with some high temperature bearing coating which he claims decreases spool time and faster boost response due to lower levels of friction. I elected to try this on my car even though it's experimental but it's turning out to be quite the project.

Or rear end squat....

Used to be a guy in Atlanta, ran a MB dismantling yard, I think it was ASAP (Atlanta Stuttgart Auto parts), and we corresponded about turbocharging a 240D. He knew a fellow that took 300D turbo parts and reworked the manifolds to eliminate one cylinder.

The Indian 616 motors are turbo'd, how hard would it be to buy the parts and ship them here? maybe not optimal but heck, it could be fun!

I just saw a car for sale here a month ago that had that exact setup, it looked just like a 81-84 300D federal car but it was definitely an OM616 with 4 injector lines.
