Worst mileage?

What was the WORST fuel mileage you've gotten in your older MB, and why?

16mpg. Creeping around town or running 80 on the interstate, 16mpg. For a year. Owed to a less than stellar carb, (even when it was new), a high revving dual cam motor in a 4 door sedan with steep gears and the aerodynamics of a brick. Coulda been worse.

Hard to tell exactly (broken odometer), but I think my 250 consistently gets about 15. My lead foot and the ridiculous rear end with no overdrive are probably the main reasons. It might help if I balanced the carburetors.

I once has a 1967 230S 4 dr that got 9mpg!

I went through the manual and synchronized the Zenith carbs and that improved the miles to about 13. Replaced all fuel lines, then discovered a couple of holes in the tank! Replaced the tank with a used one from a 220Sb which was apparently identical/very similar-- fit right in the spot.

Best I ever got was 19 mpg but I thought that was not bad all things considered. It only did city runs, due to my work schedule.

Moral of the story: maintenance is everything! The prior owner did little if none.

About 14mpg on my 280CE when run on 87 octane.

I get about 16-17 on 93 octane. There seems to be no difference between highway and in town mileage on my car.

While I haven't done any definitive mileage runs yet, With restricted driving and a fairly light foot, I can stretch a tank in all city driving for a week. so I'd estimate probably <15mpg. Due to a K-Jet that needs some maintianance..

19 is actually pretty good. Some day soon, I will do a controlled test of fuel consumption. Measured fuel amounts, times and distances.

I got six on a tank in my 280e once when my cold start compensator (IIRC it was that part) was messed up and dumping mass quantities of fuel into the intake.

Before I tuned wilma up this summer she got roughly four miles to the gallon. She was running so rich it smelled like I was in a Piper Cub or a ChrisCraft from the 30s. Maladjusted (everything) + D-Jetronic set at an interesting state of tune = "Holy **** I'm empty already?"

Four? Ouch. I used to drive an International Paystar 5000 that got about 3 running JP-8 and loaded to 130,000 gross. Unloaded I got about six. Then on one project I drove an MTVR dump truck that got two and change, but the AC worked great.

Well I spent all summer on the engine, and Wilma now gets about 20ish on 110 octane leaded.

110 octane? Did you massively increase the compression over stock?

Nah, I just run it through her every once and a while because that 2.5l d-jet engine loves leaded gas. Plus the lead keeps the valves lubed.

Where are you finding leaded gasoline? or are you adding lead?

They have racing gas at a Shell near my house for about $4.40 / gal. It's "not intended for highway use." haha
