Introducing ~ "Goldie Locks"

Hello Peaches,

I was kind of cryptic last week when I mentioned this car. It was a smokin' hot deal and I had not completed the transaction yet. It was advertised on Ebay, located two miles from my work here in Houston, Texas.

This is a 1973 Coupe 280C. Only 67,048 coupés were made from 1969 to 1976 against 1.852,008 saloons. Of these 24,669 were "280C", "280CE" (top of the range) and 42,379 "250C" and "250CE". 1973 was the first year of the 280C and the last year before Federal five MPH bumpers. The word rare is rarely used accurately, so lets say this is a car you don't see with this body style very often.

Notice these are the early bumpers, not the gigantic Federally mandated rubber ones.

Paul Bracq, the designer of the "Pagoda SL" was also the designer of this Coupé. Notice the chrome runners on the roof? These disappeared on later models...

Even more rare is the immaculate original dashboard that does not have cracks. I love that the original Becker Europa radio is still there...

This car had been in storage since 1996. The tires are dry rot and the carburetor was in a bucket in the front seat. I bought the car for restoration. Yesterday we hooked up a battery and turned the engine over which sounded perfect. The rest of the day was spent cleaning off 15 years of dust.

The original owner was Shirley Temple Black which is why "Goldie Locks" is the name I chose. It is obvious that the car was well cared for. The goal is to get "Goldie Locks" completely restored to original condition and reliable as a baseball bat.

Shishhhhh!! She still does not know I bought the car... "Goldie Locks" is in my friend's garage.

I posted a poll asking what to do about the seats. Please have a look and let me know what you think?

That's an outstanding car and find!

The gorgeous gold MB color of that era too! It's such a pretty car!

I dig the fog lights up front.

Just a beautiful gem of an MB!

I saw that on CL; the seller also said that the doors were armor plated. I guess that was BS? Looks good.

I saw it on Ebay... It did not reach the reserve price, so I approached the owner after the sale. I never saw the ad on CL. How much was it advertised for on CL? I check it everyday and somehow missed this Coupe.

No Bullet Proof Glass or Armor Plated doors!

Goldie Locks after getting detailed

I took some pictures of Goldie Locks after getting detailed.

The car is running great.

The air conditioning has been converted to R134A and is blowing cold.

Your having waaaayyy too much fun. Enjoy your new find. Leather is the way to go on the seats.

What did you get your wife or let her buy?

You could always tell her that you never told her about the car as it wasn't running for a long time and was stored in a friends garage for the past um-tine years.

I am drooling over here. That is a rolling work of art, truly. What are your plans for the interior?

I think the car deserves new seat covers. Right now I am focusing on the mechanics. I want the car to be 100% reliable and prepared for the next 40 years.
