Question "airbox" for the 4.5 (1972)

First, sorry for making a whole thread about this but maybe someone else will need to know also and they'll find this answer with a search...i tried doing a search and found nothing.

Silly question but the air filter compartment, not sure what the proper term is (I should know, I'm 38 years old)...what holds it in place from the rear? I saw two tabs on them but it wasn't connected to anything and i couldn't see where they to.

Second question, the rubber connection that bolts to it from the front, does anyone have a part # for it?

Those hooks are for an "O-ring" (or rubber band) to the hooks below.
Kinda useless and they rot every year, so skip them unless you have to have it correct. I've had a 4.5 over 120mph and never lost a air filter box...... yet.

I'll try to find the hooks you're talking about when there's daylight out.

Is your front connection gone also? The main reason I'd want this thing clamped down is to keep hot air from getting into the intake. It would have been better to put the rubber connection in the front...maybe I should customize something like that.

Maybe that's why those rubber donuts are gone from the exhaust hangers...someone did some customizing on my car there already.

The air filter straps (2) are part number 116 997 00 45 and cost about $6.00 for both. I also changed my air filter throttle gasket which is part number 001 094 25 80 and it too was about $6.

Why not get the right parts and the peace of mind knowing it's as designed.

I second this. I replaced mine, and the replacements broke in under 6 months. Sure, having flat engine mounts doesn't help I'm sure. I removed the assembly a fair amount so I just never really worried about them.

That's a respectable price...what about the front rubber piece on the snorkle? That part is broken off completely.
