headlight...mission impossible

I went to fix something that wasn't broken and I broke something

I wanted to replace the headlight bulbs and wound up dropping the headlight (the bulb, ironically, is fine). I've since went to Kragen, Autozone, and done quite a bit of searching and can't find it. I would have thought that many of these lights were inter-changable. The only thing I did find was the 5001 Sylvania but it doesn't have the removable headlight bulb assembly and has a completely sealed assembly. I'm also concerned about proper fit.

Can you guys give me some part #'s? I tried both peachparts websites (why there's two...another story I suppose) and came out empty handed.

Please let me know asap...I need to take this car to visit a sick family member in Northern Ca and I was planning to drive tomorrow morning (might drive without it anyways but dont want the fix-it ticket and fee).

I'll try the dealers if I have to but in the States, they're better known as stealerships by the "do it yourself"ers.

thanks for the part #...I'll give it a shot.

I doublechecked what I found in the stores...the sylvania 5006 is more flush...might be how they were originally and I think both filaments are 35w so it would do nothing for me on high-beam.

napa.com seems to show these:

Mine extend passed the housing about an inch before it starts the circular rounding in the front. also, the ones on napa (the only parts website that i've found so far) shows both high and low beams as two separate headlamps, both single filament each. Right now i have high beams and low beams on the top (two filaments) and the bottoms are low beams (though i believe originally they were also high beams, single filament).

(edit...just found out from that pdf from that sticky that yes, the top is low/hi and the bottom is supposed to be hi with single filament)

What do you guys have?

Ahh, it sounds like you have a car with Euro spec lights or one that's been converted. I believe those cars in the US were sold with the non-replaceable bulb type you have been running across, sealed beam they call them. If this is the case you are going to have to hunt a bit, not something you'll find at any normal parts house. There might be a current Bosch aftermarket replacement that fits, it's a common upgrade for the large single round applications like the W114 has and older Rabbits and such, not sure for the smaller one's though. Somebody correct me if I'm missing something, but it's pretty par for the course, US cars always got crappy sealed beams for a long while.

If your car has factory euro lamps with replaceable bulbs that are about the size of a ping pong ball and look like this:

You need to head over to daniel stern lighting and pick up some R2 "halogenization" lamps

actually the bulbs are the standard h4 / h7 types.

I'm not sure if I want to go back to the sealed type...but it would definitely be the cheapest and easiest fix. I'd rather put the sylvania silverstars in since I already have them. I'm checking websites that sell HID lights in case they have a 'conversion' kit or something.

I replaced my sealed lamps w off-the-shelf hella h4's. They fit fine (although the outer glass edge protrudes about 1/4 inch) and put out much more light.

That's why I had trouble finding the replacements...i was looking for them while cross-referencing my model/year.
