Insurance Rates
I just heard a rumor that Hagerty's is increasing their rates by as much as 40% this year. Has anyone heard anything on this? If so maybe it's time to look at Grundy again.
So who is getting a good deal on "Agreed Value" insurance? Right now I am paying $190.00 per year to cover both the Alfa and the 280SE with unlimited miles & roadside assistance.

I paid more for basic liability on Goldie Locks for six months as a second car.

TnBob,
That rate is with Hagerty's. I just got a quote from Grundy and it was $109.00 for the year for both cars(not just 1). My policy is up in July and the difference compels considering Grundy when it comes time to renew.

Do they allow you to commute to work in your classic car?

I don't think any collector insurer will let you commute to work with your car. At least none of the ones that i've talked to.

To qualify the car cannot be the daily driver and there must be a daily driver for each driver in the house, including kids. The car must not be the primary car for running errands or shopping trips. However it is encouraged to take the car on vacation, to car shows, or club functions of any distance. The car must be garaged. Hagerty did say verbally that they won't ding me if the car is driven to work occasionally.
Here is a link to Hagerty http://www.hagerty.com/

I've had a Hagerty policy for quite a few years now, and I'm happy with them. My policy is paid in full until Dec 13, 2010, so I'm not worried about a rate increase right now. Yeah me!

For anyone with a daily driver that just needs cheap basic insurance, I would suggest USAA. I currently pay 69 dollars a month($23.00 per car) for my 250S,250C and 190E. I am only 22 years old so I am sure for many of you that rate would be lower. However, you must be a USAA member to use there insurance. Eligibility is as follows
- Active duty officers and enlisted military personnel. - Former spouses and adult children of USAA members. - National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel. - Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).

I had only one bump this year on "agreed value" insurance with ACI the 92 BMW went to $92 year. Not bad for $0 Deductible. The SD is $59 and the SDL $173

I use all my cars for daily commute, errands, etc. Guess I will be sticking to regular insurance. They are (finally) all garaged though.
