It's indeed a shame that folks let interesting cars fall into such disrepair. Around here the attitude is "if I don't get the money that I want I'll let it rot." Or the "family" won't sell 'cuz it was grand dad's 1st car. So there are lots of interesting cars just rotting away around here.

Yeah, but maybe it all works out. The folks that don't sell cars that need restoring make the restored cars worth more.

Supposedly there is a Porsche 356 Carrera down there that still drives around, I'm sure the motor that makes it so special is long gone though...probably the same with these cars.

A guy brought in a 1984 450SL to the dealership (there is something wrong with that statement) absolutely beat to death. Not a straight panel on the car. He also got pretty angry when he was told his car didn't exist. I think they offered him $300 which was generous and would have ended up being my money haha because I'm the only one who would have taken it. In response to that offer he said he'd rather set it on fire. IIRC he was looking for over $2,000. My dads friend looked at him and said, we've got two acres of empty gravel lot in the back, gasoline and a match, it's been a slow day and you seem like the type of guy who'd do it. Come on I'm bored. Sadly he didn't do it, and left in a huff.

The question is where are the other gullwings that those spare doors came from?

I would bet $5 that the engine to the gullwing is lying around somewhere needing a rebuild.

A complete gullwing in any condition is probably worth 400K as long as its all there.

I knew a guy from Cuba (who claimed to have a real college degree E.E.) who said that they would make piston rings for their motors from American Std. cast iron sewer pipes.
I believe that could be true, check Deves Piston rings

Swapping a Chevy in can be done, after all those carbs are simple technology. Compared to our M.F.I. MBZ'z M198 motors

This guy lived in Fl and LOVED Cadallics, Ya know Elvis time stuff.

Gull wings a 300SL roadsters are such low volume cars that Daimler has the data cards and the names of every single first owner. if it was the former presidents car ,his name will be in Daimlers records. This story will no doubt unfold.
There is something fishy about the chev engine . If it was installed after the revolution it could only have been a 265 cu. in 1956 or 1957 engine but the distributor is post 1958 type with adjustable point door and the water neck is a 1964 item. None of these parts would have been used to keep a sports car running IF they were available, but were precious bits in big demand to keep a car running. Most cars were appropriated by the Cuban state and belong to the people . private cars being very few and far between. a running engine woul have been scored decades ago to keep another running instead of a lada Diesel like so many of those crap heaps in Cuba run.
The maserati would be the pick of the bunch if this is real and not some European restorers stash . The Gull wing can be restored from a chassis number ...
thats the 300's chassis you can see in this pic.
