w111 280se power window problem
Hello i have a 69 280se coupe and am trying to figure out tthe reason my power windows wont work. The backs go really slow almost like they are stuck the motor only moves slightly a little one way a little the other im guessing that the regulator is stuck i cant seem to figure out how to get back to it to fre it up though seems pretty enclosed. Also not sure if it is wired right because at the main switch i have 12 volts at each lead going to each side of the switch and then the center strip grounded wich doesnt make sense to me because i thought that i was only switching the ground for the motor as the pos is already hooked to each motor at the motor , at thleast thats what i get off the diagram on my mb service manual cd. Any help would be greatly appreciated btw my passenger front window has a 2 wire motor it looks like somebody upgraded but not hooked up i guess they couldnt figure it out either.

anyone out there know how to check the rear window regulators the motors seem to go back and forth slightly, so im guessing that the regulators are gummed up or bent. i just cant seem to figure out how to get them out of the rear quarters

Take bench out. Take top caps of quarter panels off. You should see all screws for taking off interior panel and gain access to window mechanism. Try cleaning everything first in place before trying to take them out. If somebody blew rust preventer in there, that will gum things up over time.
Good luck, Bert

The tracks down inside the door are somewhat adjustable. If they are too tight, you'll have a problem.
The lubricant on the gears and slides mechanism degrades over time and turns to a gluey consistency that restricts movement, and because the window motors are quite powerful, they can bend parts or even break cast parts trying to overcome this resistance. Check for that. Unfortunately, I don't think you can adequately clean or check the mechanism for breaks without taking it out. I've been there.

awsome thanks so are you saying that after i get the interior parts out (i have had it all open and looked at the wiring and the motor) i take the top cap steel looks like off. It just seemed like the regulator was behind a panel that didnt seem to be anywhere to take it off so basically do i take the top cap off and pull the regulator off through there im guessing after i take a few bolts out.

Just a thought or two. One of my regulators was broke and quite hard to find. I took it to a shop with tig welding capabilities, gave the guy twenty bucks and it was good to go. Also, when you go to lube things up, dont use white lithium grease. In colder weather, it will make things freeze up and hard to move. Yeah, made that mistake once.

The rear windows on a coupe dont have tracks-they are guided by the seals when they get to the top. The front windows will bind in the tracks or against the rear window unless they are very carefully adjusted. I found my windows mal adjusted and all the regulators with dried up gunk in the gear boxes. Also check for resistance and voltage drop to the motors. You might consider adding relays so the operator current is not switched through the switch. The nylon regulator bushing kit is available from the dealer.

It's a few bolts and a spring clip to detach the lifting rod from the base of the window, as I recall.

There were two types of motors, three wire ,which had two power leads and one earth and the two wire motor which had one power and one earth.
To connect the wiring on the three wire car to the two wire motor you need to install two relays so that the motor still thinks it;s getting a up and a seperate down signal. The two wire motors simply swap the power feed to reverse the motor. I have a diagram here somewhere to do it ,Mercedes issued a bulletin in 1973 for this mod. |

I would love a diagram of that. Also do. You or anyone know what relays will work as in can I get a stock relay from another car etc.. Btw my email is thehawk5ster@gmail.com. Thanks
