69 280SE coupe on Ebay: What's wrong with this picture?

I've been looking for a decent coupe, and this one looks pretty nice but take a look at the pictures. The stance is wrong; it looks like it is raised in the back and the rear tires are noticeably leaning in towards each other. Whaddaythink? Hydro-pneumatic compensator problem? It's so far up in the back that all it needs is a pair of Cragar SS rims and some Mickey Thompson slicks to be a drag racer.

Looks like it was jacked up in the back and just lowered. Both wheels pivot down and inward a bit when car is raised with jack under differential. Drive it 2 yards and all levels off. Compensator spring can also raise the car a tiny bit (mine looks a bit like that). No big deal (imho).

I looked for a 111 coupe for about two years, but I wanted an early 250SE. I looked at many - mostly rusty and in need of lots of work. I finally found one with decent paint, mostly nice chrome and an almost perfect interior. There was very little rust but it needed brake work and a MAJOR service, as well as tires. It also needs king pins. I have done everything but the front end and when finished I will have over $20K invested. I do all my own mechanical work trying to save a dollar where I can.

The coupe on ebay does raise a question here and there, but overall looks good. I guess you noticed the upper and lower dash are two different colors; the radio is out of an earlier car with a cracked faceplate; there is a wrinkle here and there; the glove box light cover is missing, as well as some screws; a window handle insert is missing and some are a different color from the interior; and I'm not sure if the interior is leather or MB Tex. As far as I know, all US coupes had leather as standard. I would not spend that much money without having it checked out by an independent MB shop.

Good luck!!

Tom
