Initial findings / notes.
Battery had a dead cell. It is a "Dont Last" (Never Start from wally mart is just as bad.)
I cannot stand not having a fan shroud. I bet the engine mounts are shot then.
No wire going to temperature switch. It is AWOL.
No vacuume line to solenoid deal. Custom wiring near firewall.
Carbs need r&r. no accl pump action. Only hear the back Carb drawing fuel in the venturi. Front carb does get fuel into the bowl tough.
Need the breather to valve cover elbow.
Some rust in the rockers and floor. Busted tail light.
Carpet is "shagged".

Not comlpaining. It is just like all the other projects i have taken on. I like this car more each day. OK. I'll say it. I'm startin to love this car.

I really want to get the cert from Mercedes-Benz now.

Thanks Jive Turkey. Did some more work on the Lil' Chero project over the weekend.
Also worked a little on the 250C. Removed the lower side moulding and removed some bondo that was hiding rust on the rockers. Took the top off the front carb to see inside the bowl. Way dirty in there. Gonna need a chem dip. Ordered a ZE-28K kit today. Will take pics of the rebuild.

Ritchie,

I just looked at your pictures. What is the engine number? Those are Zenith carbs... I have extras in storage if you need parts. I think I have an extra tail light.

The 250C has the M130 engine (2.8 6cy). It's the same engine that went into the W108 280S. The 280C has the M110 twin cam motor.

It is definatlly the 130.923 engine. Look like Zenith carbs on there. Pretty cool carbs.
Was reading some old threads on the Royze kits. Dang!! They went up in price. LOL

I am about 45 minutes away!

I have a lot of manuals. But I don't think I have any that describe transmission service beyond changing the fluid and filter.

More Pics

I removed the lower side trim and uncovered some nasty rust in the rockers. I knew it was there, just did not know how bad. A PO bondo'd over the rust and may have used some converter, by the way the rust looks. I hate that as much as yellow plug wires.

Once I get the rocker down to metal I will know if it can be patched or if new rockers will be in order.

The trunk (boot) is mat black on the inside, not blue like the hood (bonnet). must have been replaced a long time ago. I too has rust and no emblems.

I do know that this 250C will not see the crusher no matter how bad the rust is. I have a 220V Millermatic and lots of sheetmetal.

I also discovered that CD stack covers alomst fit over the carbs like the Cool Whip tub. This CD stack cover fits perect on Ford carbs though.
I will be looking out for one that is a bit wider next time I buy a stack of CD's.

The trunk is supposed to be black on the inside. Thats how Mercedes did them.

Oh man I dig that shop!! I feel your pain on the rust. My rockers weren't too bad, but there was a mess in the rear around the trunk.

Fun Fact: Undercoating LOVES to catch on fire if you didn't notice it hiding in a nook somewhere beforehand.

The Mercedes bodies are painted body colour all over ,only the boot/trunk area is satin black and the two splash panels under the front fenders.
Dont use those tiny things as aircleaners .The stock aircleaner set up is unbeatable as it feeds cold air into the engine, has more than enough volume for the size of the engine and wont block the engine breathing like a CD cover..LOL!

The undercoat is PVC,not bitumen based like 3M's bodyshutz etc. i use a Mapp gun to get it off by heating it and scraping. I did try ONCE to use a angle grinder with a wire cup and it flicked crap everywhere. A bit of smoke won't make have as much mess .
Remove all of it on the rockers and the floor close to inside of the rockers to find the full extent of the rust . Rust lives under that stuff.
I like the 58-59 Ford tudor. i could see that running a 428 four speed with black steel rims and a paxton blower.

Great info Mercmad.

Thanks for clearing up the satin black paint on the boot / trunk.

The CD cover is just to keep dust / debris out while the stock aircleaner is off and the cool whip tub is for the uni-syn.

428 .. makin me drool. But I like the Y-Blocks too much. For me these days I like odd ball engines, desoto firedome, ford flathead, I-6's,..... The I-6 in this 250c is super cool to me. different and totally new to me. I love it.

I like this 59. he got the stance right on it. The vid was on youtube last year. could not find it there.

Thanks Jive Turkey. we love our lil shop.

Shiner Bock time.
