250 SE under dash / heater control

We have to take out the dash in order to install new heater controls (dial disks) and would like to know what else we should have done at the same time. Other than replacing the light bulbs for the dash dials, I'm at a loss. The heater does make a squeaky noise when it runs so should cables be oiled or are they oiled. All suggestions would be appreciated.
