1967 230S New member

Hello everyone. Yesterday, my son ( 16 ) bought himself a car, not that unusual at 16 I guess. His choice was a little unusual. 1967 230S. I have been an avid fan of the MB classics for years and have owned and worked on several of the W126 units and really liked them. This older vintage is very new to me and I think I will be asking for help here on many occasions.
The car itself is very solid, fully intact and the engine runs smooth. The interior is amazingly well preserved without a single tear anywhere inside the vehicle. The exception seems to be the carpet, which is in pretty bad shape. Any ideas where to get a good quality carpet set for this unit? How about a service manual?
Thank you,
Jack

Welcome

Hi Jack.

Welcome to the forum. You found the right place for you and your new car.

Now, let's get you up to speed --- I would suggest you click on User CP and edit\add your location. Various members have service manuals. They often come up on the forum for sale. Posting pics of your new purchase would help.

I'm not sure about carpet, but my car needs it as well. I've got a 1967 230S but the rust killed it so I bought a 1968 200D fintail which is now my daily driver. You can ask questions about the car on the heckflosse groups here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/heckflosse/ and http://groups.google.com/group/heckflosse .

Welcome to the forums. Your son made a very good choice, it will be dead reliable if maintained, and will look very nice in that high school parking lot among all other boring cars.

Post some picture of your new W111, we would love to see it.

Welcome Jack!

The master cylinder rebuild kit is available and costs about $50.00. You will have to make sure the bore does not have pitting, otherwise it will be an easy rebuild. You can also purchase a new master cylinder for less than $150.00 if that one is bad.

We LOVE photographs!! Please take a picture and share you new baby with us. Tell us where you are from?

Your son will definitely have the coolest car at school... and you will be on the short list for best Dad!

The service manual is a two-volume set. I have an extra set that I plan to put on Ebay one of these days...

Looks like it's missing the correct master cylinder and air filter housing.

Very cool! My first car was a 71 220 Diesel. I loved it (thus still have it) I bet your kid will be showing it off in no time at the local cruise nights and car shows

I have an air cleaner assembly from my 1967 230S that I could sell if you need it. Let me know if you are interested and I will make sure everything is there.
