Some info on the mods to my car, seems like this would be the only place that it fits in (maybe??)
1969 280s W108 originally light blue now black had 68,000 miles on it when i got it about 10 years ago. Started off as a weekend cruiser that got a bit out of hand. Started off with the usual young fool mods, lowered and big stereo. Then the diff gave way so i had a borg warner diff (live axle from a VN commodre) fitted with four link suspension setup. Worked very well and got rid of the bad camber with the lowered ride height. After loving and driving it like this for a few years i needed some more power. 350 cubes of small block chev with a t-350 trans had it flying (high 13 sec 1/4) Then came nitrous and 11 sec 1/4. But the racing bug had bitten, hard. Needed more tyre, now fully fabricated 9 inch diff with 4.11 gears and big wheel tubs to fit 15 x 12 rim with 28 x 11.5 slicks. 6 point chome-olly roll cage. Rebuilt engine with roller cam etc, 10.97 1/4 without nitrous. This engine made 400hp @ tyres on pump fuel and 515hp with a 150 shot of nitrous. Best of a 9.93 over the 1/4 with a big wheelstand and early shutoff due to short gearing. Raced it for 2 seasons in the ANDRA super street bracket (10.99 - 12.99et) without nitrous and came equal 4th in my last season. Now after a year off racing i have just fnished the new setup. Race motor 427 cube small block chev, Dart block 12.6:1 comp, 8-71 BDS supercharger (only @ 20 psi) with enderle bird hat mechanical injection on methanol. Making 900 rear wheel hp on soft tune, only 26' total timing and only to 6300rpm (this is where we had wheelspin on the dyno with 7 straps and on slicks). Before leaving the dyno shop i had them fit a full funny car style roll cage and new alloy radiator. Trying to get a bit of tidying up in the interior done this week and racing by February. This car is still looking every bit like the classic benz i love on the outside but all business where it counts.

Indeed, OH MY !!!

Not sure you need springs in the front, or even the front wheels as a matter of fact !

Your 2:82 rear end may be a big part of the way the car goes. You should put it on a dyno.
I'll try to find a dyno locally because I want to know. Granted 2:82 its doing its part but I have my 2 other euros as comparison: 420SE Police Option code with high hp German engine and the 48K mile original 500SL 245HP with factory tri-y's. I've driven all 3 to the top of a 5,500 mountain pass with 40% incline midway and I can tell that this 500SEL is doing 70MPH uphill with barely a touch of gas while the 420SE bogs down to downshift one gear and the 500SL doesn't downshift but cannot keep same pace even being a much lighter car.

Some people take the air filter out of the housing on a dyno. I have noted that doing this is in fact decreasing power. It may have to do with messing with the shape of the veturi that has been designed to work best with a filter in place. I got more power by removing the top cover though.

It is still registered, but now only on club rego (limited use). But the way you see it in that video I used to drive it like that all the time. I had a set of 14 x 10's made for the rear so I could still run hubcaps on the street, was a lot of fun. I don't think I will be able to do much driving with it now apart from a test drive up the street. The engine is about 12 inches above the hood and runs twin 3.5 inch pipes without mufflers that are insanely loud.

i ma gathering parts together for a customers engine. he has a 250S that he wants souped up slightly and wants to keep the original unit. Plans call for a Efi and a better ignition so it looks like megaquirt gets the nod . i have a 280S head in good condition which may be a better head so i can install the injectors easier. The intake will the injection unit .I would love to use an early 220SE W127 intake ,just for an old style appearance .
