I am curious if anyone has changed from the traditional M110 air box to this pod style found on the 280SL (1984 in this example)?

I would like to do this to a euro spec 1977 280SE (w116).

PS I did my best to post a pic but kept coming up with too big of a file size

Not sure what advantage you would gain, and the 280SL housing is going to be rather scarce.

Jim, not looking for any particular advantage other than esthetics. I think the straight 6 is a good looking engine when properly shown off.

I tried that once on the w123 car, but there simply isn't enough room behind the headlight assembly. If you have enough room in the w116, there is no reason the swap wouldn't work. You should, however, make sure there is ample fresh air coming through the side of the radiator as the SL cannister's inlet doesn't connect directly to the chasis.
