I'm preparing to replace the following items on my '71 280SE: the flex disc, driveshaft center rubber donut and boot, rear pinion seal, and the driveshaft seal at the rear of the transmission. I've read the Haynes manual and past threads here on these topics, and believe I understand the necessary procedures, including setting the proper torque for the rear pinion grooved nut.
However, I can't seem to find much on the procedure for replacing the driveshaft seal at the rear of the transmission (4-speed manual). I've ordered the special socket to remove the grooved nut from the output flange, but I wonder if setting the proper torque when replacing this nut is as complicated as the rear pinion procedure. Any comments?
Thanks,
