Windshield washer inop
My windshield washer has never worked and I would like to restore it. I have purchased new hood nozzles and tank but am a little lost on how the system should be assembled and operate. If someone could describe the hook-ups I would appreciate it.

Manual footpump with electrical connection to wipers?
If so, pump to T joint, T joint to reservoir and nozzles. T joint has a ball inside which direct fluid flow, second T joint splits the fluid for the two nozzles.

That one may also have the pressure bulb pedal like the earlier cars. In that case, there is a line running from the bulb (in footwell) through the firewall to the top of the connection on the washer bottle. Then, another line goes from the bottle connection to the nozzle. Check the neck on the nozzle to make sure it hasn't broken off, as they are rather expensive to replace. Also check all hoses for splits and check the condition of the rubber bulb.

Re: Windshield washer inop
Mine wasn't working either.. they was alot of junk in the tubes. What I did was to disconnect them (this required some force to remove them from the T connectors) and then stuck the tube onto the nozzle of a can of compressed air and blew them out. The jets on the hood were also clogged and they were easily cleared with a needle. Before connecting the hoses to the jets again I filled the fluid tank with windshiled fluid and pumped some through the hoses to further clean them out. After connecting them to the jets again I aimed the jets with the needle so that they would hit the windshield at the right angle.

Thanks for the help. I have the "military" looking pedal on the left. I have done some poking around and will try cleaning the tubes, bulb is good. Souds like a little trial & error work.

Got it working today. Replaced both nozzles on hood, cleaned entire system especially check valves, new hoses.
1) pickup tube from resivoir goes to bottom of syphon valve (on firewall) 2) Tube frim foot pedal goes to top connect og syphon valve 3) Syphon vale middle connect goes to sprayers, check valves before each nozzle. |

F fitting
Hi I broke the T joint (antisiphon valve) on my 76 300D. THis is the part that looks like the letter "F". It snaps onto a clip on the firewall. Does anyone know where I can get one? Do you think the MB Classic center can get me one?
Thanks, Rich FOLLOW UP: I bought the part from MB dealer for $7. Classic MB support gave me the part number fo rmy 76 Last edited by Rich1Merc; 09-19-2007 at 03:18 PM. Reason: FOLLOW UP SEPT 07 |
