very strange question

67 250 S M 108

Recently installed brand new weber carbs.

Ok here's a strange question. My car smells gasoline inside my garage. I have no leaking anywhere. The carb is running lean. Why the hell it smells like a gas station?

Now when I installed this carbs I had to plug the return hose since these carbs dont need them. Would this be the excess fuel sitting in the carbs?

Thanks,

Laszlo

Maybe the valve which lets fuel into the carb is leaking fuel past and overflowing the bowl and running gas down into the intake while is is parked.

also older carbs vent into the atmosphere so some fumes is normal.

some fumes are normal , but strong smell is not, is the system venting properly?
without the original gas return, does that somehow alter the venting? No sure but worth a think through

Hi
Been through this on my 230 /110
starting at the tank end ,,the connecting rubber pipes may be very brittle & with cracks if these have not been replaced fuel pump diaphragm ( if old ) will leak if return pipe is closed off .if the diapgram is hardened with age it will give around 8 lb pressure more than twice the original of around 2.2 -3 lb/pressure
lastly the hoses may have hairline cracks apparent under pressure .
regards
mak

I did replace them since I actualy had a gasoline leak by the tank. I did some trouble shooting today. When I parked a car after fast acceleration it seemed I would smell the gas. I mean I smell the gas while driving right before park it. If I just cruise around easy I dont smell gas while driving or parked after. I'm guessing there are fuel left in the carbs that vaporates. Would this be the cause? And how do I fix it? I'm gonna call the weber guys tomorow also.

Thanks for the advises though...
