Technical Manual for W114 280C Transmission

Does anyone have a Technical Manual for the automatic transmission in a W114 280C?

I need a diagram that shows an exploded view of how it comes apart/back together.

Thanks in advance!

Jeffrey

That would be the "4-speed transmission" manual to 1977. It covers both the automatic and manual gear boxes. There is a separate manual for 1977+ models (the W123 cars).

My manuals are at my dad's house with the car, I can get them if no one else gets you the info first.

Good luck! The transmissions (yes, more than one) in my 114 have been nothing but trouble since I've had the car. I had a rebuilt unit put in the year before last, then later left it in the care of a friend back home (who drives like an old lady). Latest news-trans not shifting. I will never own another "4 bolt" Mercedes automatic.

There's a guy in Reno with a good idea. He pulled the original engine and trans and swapped in a 350 Chevy with a 700R4. The only trouble (according to his craigslist ads) is that he got sick and hasn't been able to finish it due to health. I think a 302 Ford with a T5 would be an even better idea.

But since you want to try to fix one of those evil contraptions, again I say good luck.

I thought about that, but I found that it requires parts that are not obtainable (at least not at the junkyard rates I'm willing to pay) like a W111 flywheel or something. I'm dumping the car for cheap when I get back to the States.

Been there done that with my last w123 300D. At the time 4spd swaps were not common. The lack of man-trans put me back in Volvo's and BMW's for euro-RWD cars.

The auto in my 280 shifts well but is bearing-whiny to a large degree.

I passed up some of that stuff a month ago because I don't have a 280. There's a lot in New York and not that expensive. Expect to pay 100-150 and balance it yourself. You do have to look a little, but the stuff is there.
