Attrocity on the evening news!

One of our local stations this evening was running a series of red-light camera videos of people in a local city. One of the shots showed a woman TEXTING while driving a W108 or W109. Somebody take that car away from her!

Does the news station have a website, maybe the video clip is in on there. If you find it please post it.

I'll try to get the clip on those TV websites later today

but I've never tried to do that before. If I don't succeed, maybe one or another of my kids or their spouses can still find it this weekend, since we're all gathering for another granddaughter's baptism on saturday or sunday. It was on either channel 10 or 13 out of Norfolk, VA, but it was only a few seconds of a longer story.

Ugh. The whole texting-while-driving thing is a horrid idea. I mean these cars don't have cupholders because the Germans (at the time...as i was told) believe that while in the car you should focus on driving the thing. I was driving home one day in my w126 and we were behind some mid 80s GM doing 10 under on a busy road...Get to the red light where the lane widens and turns into two..sure enough, some dumb broad, texting. Not even looking at the road at all. The light turned red, she stopped. I gave her a nice honk as I made my right turn.

::shakes head at texting drivers:: Now admittedly, I will text at a stop light or stop sign. The key there is I'm stopped and not moving or being an active threat to other drivers.

Would any self respecting W109 owner admit to having one of them confounded things?

I wonder what the text was?

Maybe she was posting on PeachParts.com

"Help, my Benz doesn't _____" and "Where is the plug in for my Ipod on my W108?"

What is the name of your local station? (I'll take a few minutes on their web site to see if I can find anything)

I'm with James Dean on this one. I'll send a quick (No more then 20 character) text only if i'm at a long stop light or in very heavy not really moving traffic.

I hate texting and find it to be the most deplorable form of communication.

Well, this morning I was stopped waiting for an incoming car to pass so that I could make a left turn. The woman driving the incoming car was holding a phone to her hear with the left hand, directing the steering wheel with her left elbow (the same arm holding the phone). Her right hand was busy making-up her eyes while she was looking in the rear mirror to that effect instead of looking at the road, and she was talking on the phone at the same time. This was in town so she wasn't driving (among other things) very fast. But I was quite impressed. I've sometimes been busy with a screw driver while driving, but I must admit I'm not sure I would be able to do all these different things at the same time without crashing into a tree or another car. When they say women are better than men at multitasking, I now believe it.

I'm sorry, this is too dangerous to be anything but an all-or-nothing issue. If you're not driving, fine. Or pull over.

Everybody should be forced to drive a manual transmission car. That would go a long way in preventing these issues.

In general yes however the traffic i'm referring to is so bad that it makes me put the car into park

If I do get a phone call while i'm driving I will pull over into a parking lot in order to take it IF I feel that it is important. As for texts i'll respond to any I get once I get to my destination but I won't randomly send any.
