'60 190b

I Just bought A 1960 190B today! It is a great car!I have been eyeing it in my town for years now,and sure enough it came out in the paper last night, and tonight ,its in my driveway!Original paint,no rust 3 owner car, euro delivery, books, records,I bought it from an older lady who has driven it daily for the last 16 years!ok,so.the dash is wood, but it is painted brown(car is blue) and the side window inner surrounds are I think Bak-O-Lite but are painted brown, all this brown is flaking off!
so,
while looking through the records /manuals with an oregon micro-brew
I found a small piece of paper ,
it is a receipt for an interior redo dated 1982.
it has listed;
upholster seats,door panels,carpets,headliner,rubout paint,"PAINT DASH & WINDOW FRAMES"
so,I am hoping that the dash wood should be finished wood, and hopefully the window frames should just be Bak-O-Lite looking (one of my favorite products)
can someone please verify this?
and what is the clunking noise in the rear?which bushings?
this is my first "Ponton"
and Oldest Mercedes so-far
I still,am dreaming of an "Adenauer" 300 !

I think you'll find it's all bakalite, no wood. But I'm going by pure (old) memory.

Is it a Ponton? I thought that the 190b was a finback? Either way, it's likely a great car. I wish I had something that simple. Today I found out that my son's computer is burned out in his car and my self-levelling 560SEL suspension needs a fair amount of work. I'm starting to look for a 1960 190b myself!

The 190c is the finback.

See, I knew somebody had the bakalite dash. I forgot about the petite little 180.

Smile ponton

As far as i can remember there are two kinds, one is a bakelite & the other one is wood. You could check the underside of the piece to determine if it's wood or the other one.

Question 1960 220S

I recently purchased a 1960 220S that is running and I have not been able to locate reverse. The manual shift is on the column, I pull up and left for 1st, pull up and right for 2nd, away up and down for 3rd and 4th. Can you help?

I recently acquired a 1960 220S - a superb automobile! Reverse is ALL the way up then left - it's right next to first. You have to pull the shifter up against a spring, past the 1-2 gate.
Note - my reverse puts the lever very close to the steering wheel. If your shifter needs adjustment or repair, don't force it.

Happy Motoring, Mark

(Ordinary cars have computers and airbags,
mine has a tube radio and tailfins!)
