weber carb fast idle adjustment
Hi guys,
I need someone to enlighten me about how to properly adjust the electric choke and fast idle speed on my weber carbs. I called the weber guys but they always seem to be so busy and I read everything how the electric choke and fast idle suppose to work. Here's my problem. The fast idle is still so high that after about 10 min when driving when cold I can hardly stop the car. The idle speed screws are almost complete out which suppose to decrees speed..well they dont! Also when I start the engine cold it roars up super high rpm that cannot be healthy for the engine. Right now I miss my Old Chevy with the edelbrock carbs..it was sooo easy! So all that said what is the proper way to adjust electric choke and fast idle speed? Thanks! |

I can look it up for you in my weber manual - do you know which webers you have?

My Haynes manual covers the DGAV but not the DGEV.
If the idle screws are all the way out and it still idles high did you check that you don't have stuck linkage or a vacuum leak? Anyway, here is the process for the DGAV 1. Open & close the throttle and verify the fast idle adjustmnet screw is resting on the high part of the fast idle cam. 2. Adjust so the throttle plate is open approx .9mm. The actual value varies by the Series your carb is but .9mm is a good starting point. 3. Fully open the throttle, then hold the choke valves open and release the throttle. Slowly release the choke valves until the fast idle adjusting screw rests on the lower part of the fast idle cam. 4. The choke plate should be open approx .85mm. If not, bend the linkage until the correct value is met. |
