W108 Road Trip - MA to SC

Driving from MA to SC next month (about 2000 miles roundtrip) and have decided to take the 1973 280SE. Have read a number of posts where the general consensus seems to be that these cars are made for long, open road trips and it can be an adventure. I'm convinced - the spouse, not so much. I'm taking the essentials: a cell phone, credit cards, AAA card and the MB toll free number. I'll even take a few tools (more for show than actual use) and some oil and other fluids. What would help ease my wife's concerns would be if I had some indy names along the way in case we have an issue. I will check the recommended repair shops section, of course, but was looking for any personal recommendations.

Thanks, in advance. Will try to post pictures and updates along the way. Let the adventure begin next month.

cool, look forward to hearing about it and seeing the pics, I'm doing a road trip to Germany in a couple of weeks and would love to take the 108 but fuel is just too expensive here so I'm taking the diesel 124.

If you're passing through PA and you need an indy, Dom at DMC automotive in Hatboro (north of Philly) is a really good guy.

Another forum put together a list of recommended benz mechanics:

No idea if it's current.

Just returned from the 8 day, 2200 mile road trip from MA to SC (sorry no pictures yet). Car ran almost flawlessly (one minor hot start issue after sitting in traffic at a gas station for 20 mins - it started, but not easily like usual). Averaged almost 17 mpg, car's sweet spot seems to be 70 mph and it was much more comfortable than I anticipated. Encountered all kinds of weather - torrential rain, fog, cold, and high heat. Just missed the tornado in NC, but did see much of the devastation.

A great adventure and it was great to drive it like it was meant to be driven. People loved seeing it and couldn't believe it was driven that far.

Fortunately, did not need any repairs, but I appreciate the info on indys from those that responded.
