Things are mighty hot in my 1976 300D
Can anyone tell me which way the levers should be so that i'm not roasting to death?

I am confused Al, of what levers do you speak? the vents levers usually go to the L on the drivers side right on the passengers side. The HVAC levers should be obvious , typically all the way to the L
