non factory sunroof
I'm looking at a decent 250s w108 to purchase. Car is overall straight, solid and original. And it's in my price range.
The one detering factor is that it has, I believe, an after market sunroof. One of those glass units that pop open on the rear portion, that were popular in the 70's and 80's. I'm pretty sure it's a non-original unit. I thought the original ones were steel sliding ones. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Personally I think it's a little tacky and kind of takes away from the charm of the car. I'm also wondering if it really takes away from the value of the car. Any opinions, suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

While an aftermarket sunroof may devalue a W108, the cost is negligible when compared to the cost of the car. Would a W108 without a sunroof have a higher value than a W108 with an aftermarket sunroof?
That being said, without putting a hose of the glass there's no way of knowing the quality of the installation. I doubt there's literature or parts to repair or service the unit and reverting it to factory condition would be fun too. Be patient, you won't have to ask questions when you find the car you're looking for. |

A friend of mine bought a finny with one of those aftermarket moon roof things. he found a proper roof on a wreck and installed that. You could do the same if you feel like a bit of work.

Holding off at this point. I went and saw a super clean W124... that needs some minor work. BUt a W108 chassis is so tempting!
