anyone else have a round-body 220SE ???
would like to talk with other owners of round body 220SE sedans. these are a bit rare, with only 1974 produced, starting in August of 1958. I have had mine since 1985. not rusty, but it has incorrect seats, headliner, etc.... it has been sitting for a few years. I would like to get it on the road again.

You have a rare car.
Would you consider selling it? There is a great article in the most recent issue of The Star (MB Club of America) on a 220SE that was restored by Frank Barrett. It listed a number of resources. I can send you a copy if you don't subscribe.

I have a 1960 220 SE Coupe, restored. You need to join the ponton group, lots of help and parts.
http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups. Look for Ponton Group, if that doesn't work sent me a note. Ed |

My wifes favorite car in the whole world is the 220se cabriolet "ponton" in the two-tone finish. I was trying to find one for our 10th anniversary in December of 2002 but I soon realized they are a bit out of my price range. She is going to have to settle for a 1965 300se coupe that I am hiding and restoring behind her back. Man, thats scary, "settle for a 300se coupe"?

THANKS
Thannks to all that have responded.
Clunker, wow!, you are brave to restore a early air ride coupe. I know the air suspension can be quite frustrating till it is sorted out. Moisture is THE enemy of the system, and draining the condensation from the supply tank and keeping alcohol in the system will help. Your coupe has that great 189 engine that traces its lineage back to the 300SL and 300 sedans of the 50's. Hope you finish it soon. Ed, thanks for the information on the ponton group. The local dealer looks at me funny when I even ask about getting parts for it. Have had great luck with Millers out in Ca. In 17 years they have always provided great service, parts, and prices. CTTAYLOR738, Thanks, since it was my first car I want to hold on to it as long as I can. Thanks for the information on the article. I probable should renew my membership soon. |

Pontons
Greetings ---
I own a '59 220 SE Cabriolet (restored and over-valued) and I thoroughly enjoy her! I must echo Ed Richardson's suggestion to join the "Ponton Group", as the members are friendly and always have advise {sometimes even good advice :-) } to offer. Seriously, its a great group of Ponton owners and there is usually someone in the group that can find that hard-to-find part. Dr. Bruce Thomson San Antonio, TX '59 220SE Cab; '92 300SD; '94 S350 |
