Smile not technically a vintage question but.....plz help?

in general, how hard is it to replace an entire dash? the model at hand is the W126, but after searching i can't find ANYTHING on removing the entire dash. I thought maybe some of you that are working on restoring older benzes, that have had cracked dashes might have some insight. I presume not too many owners let their s-class benz get a cracked dash like the PO did on mine. I found a used dash in great condition for around 100(i think), but i have to pull it myself, they said they would sell it cheap but wouldn't mess with the labor(NEVER a good sign....) thanks for helping me with my kind of off topic question,
Ryan

Everything I have read and heard says it is a major pita for the first time, best done on a warm day when things are pliable.

Have you considered one of those covers that slip on? I have one on my 300E and it's OK.

You're in luck...

Those aftermarket dash covers are quite inexpensive and quite acceptable in appearance...one caveat, I would have someone who works on interiors install it, even tho it looks like a no-brainer.

One is available for your model, I believe from Performance Products (which sold me mine).

I've had dashes pulled from cars under restoration twice...and halfway through each procedure I started to question "...I'm supposed to be having FUN doing this." So disagreable that I had a flashback on the experience when watching the part in "Alien" where they try and remove the critter from the guy's face.

I'd break out the hot glue gun and lay up some of that SHAG FUR on the dash!!!! Maybe even hang a disco ball from the rear view...

turn it into the "shag" machine...l

Your directions are coming via email. It's in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format, you will need an Adobe Reader to view. File is a little less than 3 megs, hopefully your email account will handle that. Sorry for making it a long download but it's out of my hands.

Looking at the section, I hope you have a lot of patience.
