Adding PCV valve to M110 breather hose

I need to eliminate the vacuum leak caused by the 2.5 mm breather jet sitting between the cam cover and the intake manifold. It's causing all sorts of off-idle stumbles.

I'm wondering if installing a random, off-the shelf PCV valve in the cam breather hose would solve the issue. At idle there's definitely vacuum on that hose, so that would pull the PCV shut and eliminate the air leak under the carb. Off-idle, when crankcase pressure builds and vacuum decreases, the PCV returns to its neutral position and the engine can breathe as usual.

Does that make sense, or am I missing something?

Exclamation

Hmm, a quick test covering the breather hose revealed that a PCV valve won't do much at the entrance to the valve cover. Rather I should replace the breather jet with the spring loaded PCV-like thingie that I just saw in the factory manual.

I saw that the jet has a notch, so I went at it with a flathead screwdriver. It just dug in . Has anyone removed it? What's the best way to get it out?

Also, could someone help me out by taking a pic of the carb opening of intake manifold for the M110? I want to see if the two chambers below the carburetor are completely sealed off from each other, or they communicate. In other words, if each barrel of my carb feeds 3 cylinders or both barrels feed all 6.

Thanks!
