'65 300se coupe What parts are these?
In the rear of the trunk, on the drivers side, attached to the mounting bracket that attaches the hinge to the body, not the trunk lid, is a little white one position push-pull switch that looks O.E. but does not seem to do anything. Right next to it there is a plug that appears to be missing its male counter-part. There is an extra Bosch light between the tail lights that I have seen on a 600 swb before that does not light up. Though the lense is red, I have been told that it is a rear fog lamp. All of the other M.B.'s I own or have owned have two position pull out light switches that operate the fog lamps. The head light switch on this car has one push-pull position. Does that one position head light switch operate front and rear fog lights (if in fact that is a rear fog light) or does that switch in the trunk have anything to do with it? Is the switch in the trunk supposed to operate the trunk light? Under the hood, on the fire wall, on the drivers side, next to the brake booster is a little metal cap that is hinged. Again, it looks O.E.. When you open it , it appears to be missing its male counter-part. Any help with these would be great as it will be awhile before I can trace the wires that go to them. I can post digital photos if it will help.

On this last photo, the big oblong thing is your fuse box. The little round one is a "utility socket". It's just +12v through a fuse so that you can plug in a light under the hood. Somebody had the light for sale on ebay a few weeks back. I don't recall what it sold for. I'm sure there are other gizmos to plug in. But, I don't know of any.

Any idea what the switch/switches in the trunk are for?

The wire snaking up goes to where the light is (or should be). The light socket doubles as an on-switch. The service manual has color codes for the wires in the harness. A review of the color pattern of the wires and a look in the book may tell you all you want to know.
