Storage unit find!
1 Attachment(s)
my grandma just passed away. i guess, in highschool, my mom had a 1962 volkswagen bug. for some reason her parents took it away. and never sold it, they parked it.
recently for her 50th birthday her dad planned on restoring it(only got as far as paint) and passed away, all of this was done without anybodys knowledge. when my grandma passed away on june 1st. we went through her storage unit. and i found the car. 1 owner bug. pleanty of parts for me to finish it in the back seat. all i need is a new exaust manifold. if anyone knows of any old vintage vw parts dealers let me know. ill post some more pics soon if anyone cares. i know its not an old mb but its sure cool |
Is that a sliding ragtop?
yeah, ive never seen one.
Does anyone know when the sliding ragtop was discontinued on volkswagon? Had a new 62 and 65 both having no sunroof. Cannot remember the ragtop as late as 62 but still may have been.
nice
last year for ragtop sunroof was 1963 changed to steel sunroof in 64. go to www.thesamba.com all kinds of parts and advice there.
Nice one, i'm sure that you're going to make your mother very happy by restoring it.
That's fantastic. Don't talk yourself into selling it - that one has a great story.

How many of us 'cut our teeth' on VW's?
My first car was a 1973 VW "Jeans" bug (special edition bug with Jeans cloth seats and a side stripe). I learned a lot from it.

Cool VW I started out on VWs rail bugies only bought bugs for parts.
More Pictures please. |
My first car was a '65 Veedub bug. That was fun to drive, like a go cart! Gas was $.30 a gallon and I could fill that bad boy up for under $10.
Very cool!
ill post more pics, i have in the shop, im going to drive it home from work tomorrow.
thats a sweet car. two tone paint.
my aunt had a 63 ragtop. i learned to drive in a 63 hardtop. 1978. could fill it for $6.00 dad had a 69. later owned a 73 super beetle ( fine, except for the stupid front end with struts???) now, i'm not sure i would use it as a daily driver, especially in the rain. (drum brakes and design lead to some wild times in the rain. can we say "fishtailing"? :D ) i think they made about 20 million of them (oops, wiki says 21 million) enjoy. |
