Question 78 300d shifter linkage help!!

Hey guys, first post here, have always loved the knowledge people provide here.

I have a 78 300d, there is a C-clip missing off the shifter linkage. The arm that goes from inside the car, to the piece on the transmission with the holes on it that tells the transmission what gear to be in. Because of this, I cannot shift the car.

I was getting the mail and went to back up and it must have came off as the car went into park and failed to come out. I was stuck in the middle of the road. I crawled under the car and after much much trouble was able to get it back in and then moved the shifter a tiny bit then it popped out again. I was however able to push the car ( wow heavy car) down to my street.

Where can I get the proper clip???? is there anything special I need to do when putting the linkage back in to make sure the gear selector lines up or will it just work?

Thanks guys!!

Dealership or phil @fastlane can get them for you

part # 000 994 29 60

and while you're down there might as well replace the linkage bushings if you need them. To line up the shifter fingers you need a drill bit that will fit in the fixed hole and it will align the fingers.

the reason I ask really is because I only felt one linkage thing with the hole that the arm goes in. I could move it around between the different gears etc.

the "fingers" are the small arms that hook into the linkages on the shifter end and have the clip on portion that you are messing with.

I'm going to replace all of the bushings this week and I plan on aligning the fingers so they everything is lined up properly

Is there a short term fix so I can drive the car until I can get the actual part? Like go to Home Depot and buy a c-clip of some kind?
