Post Mercedes 450 SL

My favorite car is the Mercedes 450 SL. Does anyone have any opinions of this car and are there any available to buy.

"The Mercedes Buyer's Guide" by Frank Barrett has a good section on the 450SL that discusses its evolution. Like wine, some years were better than others.

"The Star" (MBCA rag) seems to always have some cars that sound pretty nice. Hemmings and www.traderonline.com also have them.

I personally would (a) make sure that everything works, because it is expensive to fix, and (b) pay more for a premium car.

The 280/300/350/380/450/560SL to me represents one of the best "bang for the buck" Mercedes available. Very classy....and convertible!

Based on the current prices and all the newer technology SL's, these cars seem to be "out of favor". I certainly don't see many on the road and fewer and fewer show up at concours, etc.

For a modest amount, $10-$20K, you can be REALLY picky when searching to buy one....lots to choose from because of the long production run.

Chuck offers some great advice on your search. Good luck!

Thank you C Taylor738 for the info. I will check out what you said and be careful about the condition of the car.
