M130 923 Camshaft

I have posted in Wanted/For Sale but some folks might not read there very often.
I am in need of a camshaft for my '71 250C. Worn lobes!
Part No. is 1140510501.
I will consider used or new based on the price.
Thanks for any info or tips that you might provide in helping me locate a cam.

Charlie

Hey Charlie. Might think about getting your current cam reground to stock specs. I've been in touch with Schneider cams lately and they seem knowledgeable.

Make sure your oiling tube is clean and free of blockages. No oil can cause that sort of problem. Also, ZDDP had been removed from modern oils and needs to be added to oil or use diesel oil oil instead.. Also Castrol makes an oil for older engines like ours.

Search on ZDDP for a more complete explanation.

Cams are available from Mercedes, check the Classic Center.

Contact Tim (username kraakevik). He has cam's listed in his latest add

I don't know if his are for the same application or not. I think the cam's had different codes stamped on the back end to indicate what spec they are ground to rather than having the entire part number stamped on the cam. Should be a one or two digit number. I recently purchased some interior pieces from Tim and he shipped the parts very quickly.

Thanks to all for your advice. It is appreciated.
I purchased a reground cam from Metric Motors in Canoga Park, Ca. for $240 and a $180 Core deposit.
I am now waiting to hear from them to see if my core is repairable. Spoke with Mike (the owner) and I described my cam with one lobe worn down. He said most likely it is repairable.
Yes, it had a single number 5 stamped into the rear of the cam identifying the profile.
Will just have to wait a few days to find out.

You're right! The back lobe was getting only drops of oil and the next two going forward was getting minimum oil. So, you guessed it, I need a new oil pump!! $380 from Metric Motors. No core. Again, good price for a new upgraded hi volume pump, better than original.

Fortunately, we caught it before it damaged the cam beyond repair. That saved me $180.I'm just thankful that I decided to get that little tic, tic, tic fixed as fast as I did.

But, that isn't all. I might as well tell the rest of the story. Some of you may not know that the cam carriers are not bolted to the head. The bolts go through the head into the block. So, when the cam was changed, the head gasket broke loose and didn't reseat properly, resulting in water leaks. So the head gasket also had to be replaced.

So far, a $100 valve adjustment has resulted in a new reground cam, new head gasket and a new oil pump plus new head bolts, rockers, springs and anything else required to do the job right

Guess it comes with the territory. At least now I know why I just couldn't find that little roughness in the idle that I have been chasing for more than a year. I kept thinking that I just couldn't get the webers sync'ed. The worn cam lobe just may have been the culprit all along. I should know tomorrow. Thanks again to all of you for your comments, advice and suggestions. They were all appreciated, very much.
