Thank you for trying to help.

FYI
A couple of issues on the suggestion.
* I support FastLane and Phil.
* The repair kit on the car is new.
* The owner has not decided to repair or junk.

I dont think I would try to keep that on the road. Piles of perfectly straight and rust free bodys are going to the crusher in california and could be had for pretty cheap(w123, w126, w114, w115, w116, w108, etc). A car that rusty will never be right unless its stripped to a bare shell and has a huge amount of work done with some pretty expensive equipment. I know there is a completely straight and rust free w114 in the junkyard by my house right now, and i see them regularly.

my thoughts exactly..Even here you can find very cheap rust free donors . It would far easier to get one from a dry state and move it on a trailer.
I recently bought a 240D off ebay just for the engine ,this was pretty rusty and I Sold the rolling car minus engine for $200 because everything was good ,chrome lights etc . The car it self had only done 80,000 miles from new.
Now a 300D manual 115 has turned up which just needs a windscreen.
Here in Australia we always factor in the cost of transport because it can be 60 miles between each town and a bargain might appear 1000 miles away.
In the US,it must surely be simple to do a deal with a long haul trucker to add a car as a backload? We do it here all the time .
The trucker wins because he isn't driving empty and you will win because your transport costs are slashed.
And I mentioned before, if the idler tube rusted off,the inside of the rails WILL be rusted. There are plenty of drain holes which let in water and salt .
