Those arent W108/9 euro headlights. Those are just 7" upgraded "sealed beam" units, you can replace the bulb. Those arent sealed.

The ones Mercy posted are early. Later W108s had stacked headlights with the parking light built into the inner triangular plastic lens (by the grille), while the outer triangular lens was amber for the directional signal. For some reason, the later Euro specs are extremely tough to find.

Mercy's picture of the "fishbowl" early- style W111/ early 108 lamp is obviously retrofitted to a U.S. spec car; while the "fishbowl" lights have driving/ fog lamps built into the bottom of the units, another set of fog/ driving lights (that almost always appears on later Euro W108s and W111c cars due to the later Euro stacked lamps not having fogs built in) has been installed to fill the holes where the U.S. spec parking/ signal lights went. In this application, those fogs are redundant.

The fishbowls Mercy shows are an unusual design, though- "proud" at the bottoms, unlike most Bosch units of that type I've seen. I like them! Are they the Hella equivalent?

here's the later W108/ W109 Euro lights I'm talking about:

My 1969 300SEL 6.3 Euro had this setup. 1966-67 W111, 108/109 came with the "fishbowls", later cars all got the ones I show on the red car above (I'm not exact on the switchover date).

The bulb holder the OP posted is for this style headlamp.

My outer triangular directional lenses are clear. Any idea where I can get the amber ones and how expensive they are? TIA and Happy New Year.

You can still get the "drop in" round euro lights new today. I wouldn't waste my money on a tired, pitted, and ruined set like that.

I liked the look as well and looked forever (Bosch, ebay, MB yards) wound up knuckling under and getting them from a dealer for about $65 apiece. Still have the parts numbers around here someplace if you need them. New clear lenses are available thru Fastlane for around $20 or so.

Thanks. Don't bother with the part number just yet as $65/directional is outside my budget. Appreciate the info.

As a side note, looked into painting the inside of a set of clear signal lenses with Tamiya model 'lens' paint. Couldn't get a decent color match and the results weren't so hot.
