mercedes 65 to new 24v engine

Hi,

I'm new to this forum (not new to pelican forums, more than 11 years)

I tried to log in with my old nickname without sucess.

Past year I ran a rally with a mercedes 1965, I will do it again but know i want to replace the engine, bigger and newer but I need to stay with category rules, my engine needs to be straight six and carbs (3 40 dcoe).

I'm wondering what will be a better option, if m103 or m104 ?

I like the idea of m104 24v 3.2 or maybe 3.6

the problem is the ignition,
I know that the first (1990-92) m104 is 3 liter with jetronic ignition and have a really dis, but I cant found this engine, appears to be more difficult to found that amg 3.6.
I really dont know if this engine came to usa ?

I supose than I can install a crank trigger ,edis 6 with megajolt
exist a better or easier option ?

I need power and reliability ( 6 days 312miles dairy)

I will buy 2 engines

please let me know options , ignition and power increase

3.6 ? is difficult, 350d crank, which rods and pistons ?

the m103 or m104 engines fits into my old 65 trans ?

thanks

None of those engines fit the W111 trans, use the trans that comes with the engine. There 4 and 5 speed automatics and 4 and 5 speed manual trans
Both are known for blowing head gaskets but are pretty bullet proof .

hi, I dont know how many were sold in ther uSA ,I'm in Australia but we got a lot of them .
Why cant you use 5 speed? they were an option on W111 chassis cars, (ZF) If they allow you to use a modern engine you can use a 5 speed with bigger discs and 15" wheels because all were available from the factory.

5speed

I argument the same thing about the zf trans, but I believe the option came in 1969, my car is 65

I will try again , I need the 5 speed

my car is w111 220 1965
I believe that allt he 220 came with 3.92 rear end, I found a 350 v8 with 3.46 that I want ouse that already have rear disc brakes

do you know the gears ratio on my original trans, I know tha 4 gear is 1.1 but I dont know about 1,2,and 3 gears

regards

The M104 3.2 liter engine (HFM) was only used from 1993-1995 in the W124 chassis cars, 1996-1997 in W210 chassis cars, and 1993-1999 in the W140 chassis cars.

As far as I know, none of these cars ever came with a manual transmission in these years.

I believe the 300E was offered in two years only with a 5 speed stick in the late 80's.
