Does anyone have a 110 car with a working heater?
I was just wondering what it's like to have a working heater in a 110 car. Is it strong? Does i warm you up? My car does not even have the heater core in it for some reason. is it alot of work to install and configure the system? What about the levers? (my car is a 66 230)

You don't need a heater in Sunny Southern California.....just kidding.
It won't be as powerfull as a modern car but I used to have a 230 yers ago and never had any complaint with the heater - even in subfreezing weather. (Before the 230 I had a '61 180b Ponton if you want to talk about feeble heaters!) I recently acqired a 1960 220S Finback and so far the heater has been OK down to 20 degrees though maybe a bit slow to warm up. As for ease of installation, that depends on how much of your old heater is missing. Many years ago, I removed and repaired the heater in my Dads '60 Finback and I don't remember it being especially difficult. If you can find a parts car with the heater intact, then you can make a note of how everything is set up and you would have all the screws, clips, brackets, cables....etc. You'll have to remove the radio and AC unit (If so equipped) for access. Also, the plastic heater cases get brittle after 35 - 40 years so you need to be extra carefull with a used one and may have to repair it before or after you install it. Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks mark, that was really helpful. The weather here is great, but it can get pretty cold, and with the weather seals in the poor state that they are in, the entire car gets caught in a draft. It's great in the summer. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks. Finbacks are great, and you've got a pretty crazy history with them.

Aram,
I drove 'Miss Daisy' (my '60 220S) today. Was 65 degrees here - didn't need a heater. Just how much of your heater is missing? Are the controls or fan motor still there? If you just want heat, you might be able to find some small, self contained, heater / fan unit that would fit under the dash from some other make of car / truck in a salvage yard. Also look in 'Hemmings' or 'J C Whitney'. They sometimes have new heaters availible for installation in Hot-Rods / Custom vehicles or auxiliary underseat heater / fan units for trucks. At least you would have some heat until you could find an original Mercedes unit. Happy Motoring, Mark

My local radiator shop has replaced the heater cores in my 190SL. They use modern cores, and it is no big deal for them.

My Heater doesn't work all that great but I use it on occasion here in central Florida when it gets in the 30's. It just keeps the chill out of the car. The A/C does do that great of a job either so I drive only on days below 90 and above 40
