280CE Timing and mixture settings
1 Attachment(s)
I have a 1971 114 model 280CE and have just rebuilt the head. I set the timing to the 0|0 mark on the bottom pulley and was able to start the car but it wasn't idling happy and also it seemed to leave a lot of petrol in the oil. Actually there was so much petrol in the oil I used it as a firelighter !!! I was then told that the timing should be 13 degrees to the right (retiring) of the 0|0 mark and haiving set this the engines behaves a lot better but the rear exhaust seems to breathe heavy which still indicates the mixture is too rich.
I need to know where to set the CO mixture as the adjustment on the brain box doesn't really do much ? I also need to know if there is any cure for the noisy tappets which all these M110 engines seem to suffer from ? |
