1974 240d Bolt/Stud
Aloha. I'm looking for a bolt for my 1974 240d (aka Ollie). It screws into the vacuum pump housing and has a threaded stud on the opposite end that accepts a strut that secures the power steering pump housing. In other words, it's threaded on both ends. This is what the Mercedes' Classic department wrote when I made an inquiry there:
Hi Patrick, The part you are looking for is on backorder everywhere with no ETA. I haven't had a request for this part in at least 15 years. There is no accurate parts illustration of it either, so most people will give up trying to find it. The part number is A6150520071. When you look at the part illustration of this in our electronic parts catalogs, it looks like an ordinary bolt. But it is actually a bolt with a stud on top of it. It was used on 220D, 240D and 300D with power steering through 1976. It was also used on 1968-69 250 and 280S gas models. So if you want to try to find a used one, these are the cars to look for. Good luck! Kind regards, / Mit freundlichen Grüßen, ________________________________ Thomas Hanson Supervisor, Parts Operations Any help anyone can give would be most appreciated. Can you post a photo? These cars are laying around here and there and it would not be hard to pull one from a scrap yard.
But I cannot tell from your description just what you mean. |

A metric stud, both ended threaded with a female threaded coupler mounted on the open end should do according to how I read your description.

#93 in this pic, right? This piece shouldn't be too hard to find. Kinda looks like one of the valve cover bolts on my Jeep (double-ended bolt if you would, my Jeep has these on the side by the wires to hold the wire clips in). What's the length & thread pitch? ex: 20mm tip to head seat on one side, 30mm tip to head seat other side, m10-1.5 pitch.

Thanks for the responses. I think that is the bolt (#93). I'm sending your pic to my mechanic friend who pulled the broken bolt to confirm. He can probably answer your length and thread pitch question, too. That is the type of bolt I need, regardless. And, no photo, I'm afraid. The original bolt was sheared off on the thin stud end and somehow got misplaced...

Unless you are going for the original look I think a threaded stud with a spacer the length of the 'nut' head would serve the same purpose.
It appears that this serves two functions: To hold the bolt to the block so you can mount a bracket to it and to keep the bracket the correct distance from the block. Both should be easy to find at an auto parts store, and this could be why Mercedes is not killing themselves to come up with more of them. However, this part would be easy to find in the right kind of wrecking yard. |

We thought of using a threaded stud, but the difference i size between the bolt end of the part and the stud end of the part is vast. The brace that fits onto the stud is surprisingly small, too. We even tried taking a large bolt that fit, then drilled and tapped it to accept a threaded stud. That worked for a few weeks, but eventually it failed. But, "Billhard" has kindly offered to get the part he found to me, so all will work out. Thanks again to everyone here for their help.
