Can I remove the 'bumpers' off my 73 bumper?

The two rubber things on either side of the license plate, can they be removed without ill effects? Kind of like the euro cars.

Sure, just be aware that the "bumperettes" are usually attached with bolts, so there's likely a hole on each side of them in the front bumper. Plus if someone backs up into you or if a shopping cart goes haywire, it's more likely to harm the grille of your car.

I have to say, that's a damn sharp 116! I always loved the look of the early / euro bumpers compared to the Nader-bars.

Thank you... If they are in fact attached with bolts I'm just gonna leave them on. They are minor in comparison to the 74+ park bench bumpers lol. I gotta say I lucked out in getting a good deal on this car along with the fact that it's got the slim bumpers. Sometimes I wish I had a sunroof and a console-shifter though!

well there are nice chrome plugs available that will fill the holes, you might have to take the entire bumper off to access them. BTW - nice car

Even though there will be holes behind those pieces if you remove them, I think that if you purchase new rubber strips they will cover the holes. I'm not sure of this, though.

I wasn't sure if the rubber strips would cover them or not. Some of the older models you can hide those holes with new ones, others you can't because the bumperettes begin after the strips end. It depends how they're mounted - before the factory strip starts, or if the factory strip was trimmed and they start after it would normally begin.

Otherwise, I didn't think of the chrome plugs, and they'd probably mask it well!
