I borrowed the blue .4 ohm ballast resistor from the 280CE and put it in the 450SEL, this gave me spark. I replaced the points cause they looked corroded and had a new set from NAPA on hand.

I had to pour gas in the intake for a while and each time it would progressively run longer before it died. Finally it got to where it would run and start on its own!!!

It runs really rough and smokes greyish black at idle and when you rev it. Im going to put in a new set of plugs and check the points gap and dwell soon. Im sure its still running on some old gas in the lines.

I was able to drive it around the block, transmission shifted great in the little bit that i was able to drive it.

before throwing plugs at it, make sure it's not running too rich. One common problem with D-Jet cars is when it acts out, it runs rich. It could be the computer, map sensor, throttle position switch or fuel pressure regulator.

There is a great write up on how to diagnose this on the BW W116 forum that was posted by Nuts4Benz. Check it out.

Also make sure that your timing is set correctly. It needs to be something like 18 degrees advance at 1500rpm.

Well right now it's not running on all 8 at lower RPM. I didn't check the points gap when I installed them, I just eyeballed it from looking at the old points. It could also be a bad plug I won't know till I pull them out

The previous owner, ::mathew had it running, he said it was idling smoothly when he had it running.

Fair enough, if you have a stethoscope or a screw driver, press it up against each injector and listen for clicking. You may have stuck injectors or dirty trigger points that is preventing fuel from getting through.

I set the points and timing it runs smoother now.

I found a bad wire at the trigger points plug so i did a quick temp fix just to see how it would run, it still idled rough and smoked black all the time but when i revved it up it sounded great, sounded like it has tons of power.

Im gonna pull the trigger points out and clean them, properly repair the corroded wire, and check the MAP, maybe the MAP is causing it to run so rich.

If it's running rich at idle, then you need to adjust the dial on the computer, count the clicks so you know where to go back if you need to. You'll need to give it a few minutes to adjust before making more changes.

Today I got the car running great for a short time. I properly repaired the bad wire at the trigger points plug and I found the hose from the MAP sensor disconnected and replaced the 8th plug today with the correct type. Napa only gave me 7 plugs the other day by mistake.

With all that said the engine ran great, smooth idle and very little smoke! I took it around the block a couple times and when I got back in the driveway the motor died. The fuel pump seized up. Other wise I think it's gonna be a good runner.

I still can figure out why the windows refuse to go down, there is no power at the console. I swapped around all the relays I can find and cleaned the fuses

Be careful here, you may have some crap in the tank. It's best to take the strainer out and feel around for crud. If there is some, then have the tank professionally cleaned. It's not a good idea to try to clean it by sticking a hose pipe in the filler cap (don't ask me how i know this).

pulled strainer no crud in tank from what i could tell.

Installed another fuel pump and it started up and ran great, then it warmed up and it ran very badly. It started missing and blowing dark smoke like crazy. Im thinking trigger points are dirty or possibly bad

Good old D-Jet, check to see if the cold start injector is leaking.

I'll check that. It was running so freaking good the other day before that fuel pump seized up! I just dont know why all of a sudden its back to running like it did when i first got it started.

Its running extremely rich and it doesnt seem like its running on all 8, maybe cause its so rich.

have you adjusted the ECU under the dash? CSV stuck open?
If the TP are worn , that is the part to deal with
Do you have an exhaust CO sniffer ?

I pulled the trigger points out and cleaned them the best i could, they look fine as far as i can tell.

The car still runs rough and smokes constantly, blue, black, and grey depending on the time.

If i continue to rev the motor and play with the throttle i can get it to idle smoothly, still smoking blueish greyish though. If i give it a it of throttle it will stall unless i really floor it and be hard on the pedal to get it revved up. At wide open throttle it smokes like a diesel with a seized turbo.

It doesnt run well enough to drive it at all right now.

It be have the same hot and cold. It can be harder to start hot without pumping the pedal.

What beats me is that i had it running pretty good a couple weeks ago and then like the flip of a switch it runs like crap again.
