Idler Adjust Question 190D

Does someone have a picture of how the idler adjust attaches to the engine? And what is needed in the way of hardware.

I discovered mine isn't attached to anything on my "new" 1964, however the adjustment knob does move the wire.

Thank you,

Here's a few photos.

OK....

Call the nut the grounding wire is attached to nut one.

The nut the adjusting cable is currently attached to nut two.

And the last 'nut', the one that is next to the adjustment rods, is nut three.

And the adjustment rods are attached to a plate that moves and has a slot at the bottom of it that moves with it.

Now....

The adjustment wire goes down through nut number three and the cable housing fits into the round hole there. The adjustment wire goes down and through the slot in the bottom of the plate and is secured there with a bolt with a hole in it, which you are missing, and is adjusted for length by pulling it through the bolt and tightening the nut down on it.

Hopefully the photo will have enough detail for you to see what I am talking about.

Thank you. So if I have it right, then the second picture is correct and it then is attached to a nut on the end?

Thank you again.

Yes, you'll need the idle cable stop # 1233000086 .The original one was shaped differently,at least mine was,but that's of no importance...

PeachParts FastLane Mercedes Parts Store

How to adjust the cable:

...flat side of the stop should face the angle relay lever actually(upside down on this pic):

Good luck!

P.S. The locking screw of the stop is M5x8 DIN 84,according to the EPC...

You might also want to replace the cable assembly. With the coating stripped off the end it will still do its' job but there will be a bit of play that might or might not bother you.

I don't know if 'the' cable is available from Mercedes, but it is a pretty standard cable and if you took it in to a good lawnmower shop they might have one that would work.

Thank you everyone. That part is exactly what I'm missing and the part number helped.

Now one more question, the clutch is leaking and I've read all the posts on bleeding, but I think the clutch master cylinder should be replaced along with the slave unit.

Cany you give me part numbers for those so I can order from this site?

Thanks again
