1972 220D , ID a switch below the radio

There is a pull-push switch below the Radio. When I pull it a light on the switch comes on . Anyone know what that switch goes to?

I think that this is the heated rear screen.

This 220D does not have the heater in the back window. Here is a photo of the switch.

Yep, that's the switch for the heated rear window. You won't see heating elements in the rear window on MB's of the era.

I'm diggin' the meat thermometer in the A/C vent... "Hon, quit yer complanin'... The A/C is blowing at exactly 78.4*F and it is at least three degrees warmer outside!"

And someone's office cubicle is missing a chair mat...

Could it be that somewhere over the years the back glass was busted out and replaced with a non-heated glass?

Because that is without a doubt the switch for the rear window defrost.

Yes, You were right. There are wires in the back window. Thank you for the Info. When I pull the switch out and hold it the light on the switch stays on. If I let it go the light goes off. Is that normal?

No, it should be once to turn on (and light stays on), once more to turn off. This may be because the window has been replaced like Pooka says, and the circuit's not there, so it doesn't stay on. It could be a bad relay. It could be a bad switch. But the light should stay lit (IIRC, it does shut off after some time).
