116 console carpet removal

I need to remove moist carpet and padding from the center console 1980 300SD.

All other carpet is out.

I am in the process of removing the console but the carpet seems fused to the console edge near the seats and elsewhere. I imagine it is glued.

Once I get the console out, how is the carpet replaced.

Any thoughts or experience with a 116 or any 1970s model?

I replaced the carpet in my 116 a few years back. If I remember correctly, the carpet is just glued to the tunnel. Start at a corner and peel away. I don't remember it giving me any difficulty.

For replacement, I bought about 10 yards of latex-backed automotive carpet. It's flexible enough to be able to be glued in place.

Nice. Does the console need to be removed to do this? I should be able to rip out the under pad near the rear of the console without removal. I have the seats out for easy access. I am planning on automotive stock dark blue carpet there which will closely match the blue velour. Thanks a lot
