65 220S Work
Hi all, I've been working on my 65 220S again. This is because I drove a 280SL last week and need to get the old babe moving again.
The car has really bad starting problems, so I swapped the cold start valve. OOOps, did I mention I swapped the engine and trans from the other 65 220SE I own? I guess not, well I did, including the tank, fuel pump, replacement lines and some other things as well. On Monday, I removed the original injection pump, finally. One of the pipes was rusted on at the pump but the other wasn't. I removed the injection pump with the frozen pipe, squirted it liberally with PBlaster and let it soak in. I did some other stuff as well, removed the fuel pipe to the cold start valve and the air bypass pipe. Both are pretty rusty so the need some polishing. Anyway, I managed to get the frozen pipe union freed from the injection pump. Patience is a virtue. Tuesday, I took my spare injection pump to my car and put that one in. The problem with the original one was that the idle adjusting knob on the rear could not be engaged or turned so I suspect someone tried to adjust it with the engine running. That is a BIG no-no. The pump went in fine, fuel damper in, pipes connected but the fuel supply hose broke. I am going to grind the crimped on metal off the hose and replace the hose and use screw clamps. The oil from the original pump was a dirty black so it looks like it was never changed. I'll get some fresh oil in there. I need to clean things up in the engine compartment, it's a little dirty. I'll post some pics for you all.
