questions about a 280se 4.5

Hi,

Just got this car. Changed the oil (like molasas) and the brake fluid yesterday (black!). In MD we need a state inspection to get tags. As the lift picked the car up i noticed the engine drop about an inch or 2. This seemed strange to me and the tech doing the inspection. Does this indicate bad engine mounts or something else thats specific to these cars as I have never seen an engine do that when put on a lift. Also the tech couldnt find the pcv valve and the vapor canister. Does this car have them and if so where are they located? Otherwise the can needs a tune up and Im going to get the Pertronix electronic ignition to replace the points. It has the Ronal bundt cake wheels at the moment, what would the correct steel wheels be( say off a w123? ) and the correct tire size. Its a 205/70/14 at the moment. Also anyone out there with the interior wood and dash pad in good condition for sale? So many questions but im very familiar with the 80's mercedes, not these yet though! Thanks!

Bart,

The engine dropping down a bit is completely normal as it sits on a subframe which has rubber mounts attaching it to the chassis. Also, the 205/70R-14 is fine for a tire size. The bundt cake alloy wheels were a period correct option at the time, and I personally think that they look much better than the steelies.

I do have a complete set of interior wood for sale which will fit your car. It is in good condition but ideally could stand refinishing. $150 for the set. It includes both dash pieces and all door pieces.
