69 w115 valve cover - tightening?

On my 1969 w115 - what is the correct way to tighten down the valve cover on my car - can I over tighten, does it snug down to a stop point or what - I don't want to over tighten or under tighten, not sure on the procedure.

Chris

Do it in an X manner. Do opposing bolts. Only snug the bolts. Once all are snug torque them down. They are easily over-tightened. I can't remember the exact torque specs but a 1/4" ratchet is more than sufficient.

Best Regards,

David

5 Nm, so that there is a bit of room for expansion.

So what does 5nm equal, or is 5nm on the typical torque wrench?
And do I stop as soon as I hit 5nm?

5 Newton meter = 3.6878107 foot-pound (lb.ft)

If you have a good torque wrench, both will be on there.

It is very low torque. If the torque wrench clicks, you stop, as the torque is achieved. There are other torque wrenches which don't click, but have another system of showing the torque.

A 1/4" Torque wrench is inch-pounds and NM I believe. If not, Dr Google can help you out. I have a 1/4" and a 1/2" wrench, obviously each is useful for their own job types.

1/4" Torque Wrench - 20-200 in. lbs.
