Trouble removing 4.5 right side head

I am trying to remove the right side head on my '72 280 4.5.
It seems that the right side timing chain tensioner is attached to the block, and is in the way of getting the head off.
How do I remove that tesnioner? Or any other ways of getting the head off?
Thanks,

Csaba

Not sure about your exact configuration but if it is kind of similar to my 3.5 (3.5 has a bracket attached to one of the two bolts holding the tensioner...from tensioner down to the compressor/airsuspension...a pain to remove this bracket)
You need to remove all parts that are in the way of removing the tensioner. Remove the 2 bolts and get the tensioner out. With the tensioner removed you need at least one or better two helpers to lift and move the head in a way to get the tensioner guide rail out of the way or you better remove this guide rail entirely before you lift the head out (need to repair/replace this thing anyhow if worn). You need to move the chain around, very tight space, but not drop it. Use a plastic rope and secure the chain.

Chain is broken, so no worries there....
I found the bolt holding the guide rail, but then realized that to remove it I need to remove the camgear. So I'll try and get a helper and see if we can lift the head off with the guide rail loose.
Thanks,

Csaba

Csaba, I did both heads all on my own. I also had the below PDF, not sure if it helped a little or a ton

I got it off! I ended up unbolting the exhaust manifolds (2 pipes for the right head and only one for the left? Really???) and the camgear (to get the chain tensioner out).
It really did not want to come loose for some reason, I could lift it half an inch, and then it had resistance. Likely part of the head gasket was stuck to the head and part of it to the block. I ended up jerking it up as hard as I could and it came loose. The cam is off now and I'll take it to the machine shop tomorrow. They will take 2-3 weeks to get it done, so I will have time to clean the engine compartment. By then the parts I sent off for zinc-plating and the cleaned injectors should be back too.

Csaba
