1968 w115 How does the rear vents / defrost work
Can someone tell me how the rear vents work, there purpose and how they work to defrost the rear window? I see the rear vents serve a purpose, I see the trim piece that is at the inside base of the rear windshield that directs air in some way to a channel that runs under and around the rear ledge . . . I'm intrigued, I know the designed this for a reason, would like to understand the concept.
Tell me more!

On the outside of the car, along the rear edge of the rear doors, there are vents lurking behind the trim. Forward motion of the car creates a low pressure area in the outside vents drawing air from the base of the rear window through the trim piece you see there. You can see the "duct" formed into the rear parcel shelf from inside the trunk. A high pressure are builds at the base of the windshield, forcing air through the heater.
The literature says that there is enough airflow that a fan is not needed as long as the car is in motion. Michael
